Judgment day for Lalit Modi todayN Srinivasan under fire too
Its D-Day for beleaguered former Indian Premier League Chairman Lalit Modi - the Bombay High court is set to take a decision on Modi's plea to stay the BCCI's disciplinary proceedings against him. According to a report, the plea was heard in court on Wednesday and there were plenty of fireworks exchanged. Modi's lawyers accused the BCCI of bias and demanded that the disciplinary committee should be 'independent' and free of any bias. "It's impossible to expect honest and impartial decision from the committee," Modi's lawyer Virag Tulzhapurkar told the court. BCCI's secretary N Srinivasan was also targeted by Modi, as he had no right to reject his replies to the BCCI's show cause notices as he himself is biased. And according to advocate Tulzhapurkar, Chirayu Amin, a member of the committee and acting Chairman of IPL, too had a personal bias against Modi. "Even Jaitley should not be on the panel because he, along with Amin, was part of the IPL's governing council which "ratified" Srinivasan's opinion that there was prima facie evidence to initiate disciplinary inquiry against Modi", he said. A confidential income tax department report into Modi has revealed that he holds a silent stake in 3 IPL teams - the Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab. Furthermore, there are controversies as to whether Modi was involved in match fixing and betting in IPL games. He is also under fire for helping his family and friends buy stakes in IPL teams.
