Ifran Pathan dropped from World T20 squad

End of his career?

Things are not looking up for all rounder Irfan Pathan, he has been left out of the 30-member probables list named for the Twenty20 World Cup due to an injury.

The elder Pathan sibling made a roaring debut in cricket, and many had considered him to be the next Wasim Akram, due to his ability to naturally swing the ball both ways under any conditions. Since the past two years (more accurately, since Dravid took over as captain replacing Dada) his form declined. Just recently he was demoted to Grade C from Grade B in BCCI's central contract. Irfan last played match a Test match in 2008, when South Africa toured India. His previous ODI game was in SL when India toured the island nation earlier this year.

The past decade in Indian cricket cricket has seen many talented bowlers who curiously deteriorated - Ajit Agarkar, who still holds the world record for the fastest fifty wickets in ODIs has more or less bid goodbye to his career. Ashish Nehra has made a comeback, but his future remains uncertain due to the presence of Zaheer Khan and Sreesanth's new found form. Laxmipathi Balaji, who dismantled the Pakistan batting in India's tour to the country was plagued with injuries and has since never played a Test or an ODI. RP Singh in his comeback matches did not produce results. Ishant Sharma too has been dropped from the squad following inconsistent performances.

Manish Pandey, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravichandran Ashwin, Abhimanyu Mithun, R Vinay Kumar and Naman Ojha are the new faces in the World T20 probables list. Munaf Patel, RP Singh and Rohit Sharma also made it to the list.
